Love is in the air! A wonderful way to impress God’s love on your children is through fun activities and time together. Below is an activity to help you talk to your child about God’s love that is perfect for Valentine’s Day.
Show your kids some un-popped popcorn. Tell them the kernels are like children who haven’t found Jesus. Without the warmth of God’s love they haven’t burst to life.
Make a bag of microwave popcorn. While you wait for the popcorn to pop, read 1 John 3:1
See what amazing love the Father has given us! Because of it, we are called children of God. And that’s what we really are! The world doesn’t know us because it didn’t know him.
Explain how popcorn kernels are like people. Kernels change to popcorn when heat is added. When God’s love is added to our hearts, we also change. Our hearts burst with happiness and praises to Jesus burst out of us!
When we ask God to forgive us we become his children. As his children, we should praise God and love like He loves. Then God’s love will burst out of us like the bag of popcorn in the microwave. When this happens in our lives we can’t help but tell everyone we know about His great love.

God’s love bursting out of us looks like:
- Wanting to sing happy songs when we are having a bad day
- Encouraging others when they are having a bad day
- Praying with people
- Sending a card to someone
Eat the popcorn together. As you eat, help your child find one person to share God’s love with.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 6:5-7
